Fire Fighters Charity Launches Strategic Plan 2017-2020

The Fire Fighters Charity has launched its strategic plan 2017-2020 outlining that over the next three years it will focus its work across four key areas:  .

  • Increased mental health support
  • Increased access to advice, information and support
  • Strong, healthy and connected communities: built through combining the strengths of online interactions and face to face contact
  • Enhanced physical activity and rehabilitation programmes.

Retired Hampshire firefighter Arthur Stubbington and his wife Susan accessed the Charity’s services through their community-based Advice, Information and Support Service. Listen to Arthur and Susan’s story.

Buckingham Palace Visit 2016

On a lovely, sunny September day, 53 of our members and partners boarded a coach for a day out in London .

Our first stop was the Rubens Hotel opposite the Royal Mews. A two course carvery lunch was served in the newly refurbished Old Masters restaurant and included roast rib of Scottish beef, roast pork or Scottish salmon with all the trimmings . The wine was most enjoyable but needed to be “carefully guarded” at the price being charged!

After lunch we crossed the road into Buckingham Palace to enjoy an audio tour, which included the magnificent State rooms, Royal galleries, a fine collection of porcelain and furnishings. Our visit also coincided with an exhibition of clothing and hats worn by The Queen throughout her reign. Many famous costumes were on display including her wedding and coronation gowns, together with pictures or movie clips of ceremonial events and Royal visits. Some 2 hours later afternoon tea or ice cream was being enjoyed on the terrace of The Palace overlooking the beautiful gardens and lake.

It was a grand day out!
